William Wordsworth (1770–1850) was one of the greatest English Romantic poets. He was born in Cumberland, in the Lake District, and studied at St John’s College, Cambridge. Wordsworth loved nature and believed that it was a source of inspiration and spiritual strength.

In 1798, he published Lyrical Ballads together with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This book is considered the beginning of the Romantic movement in English poetry. One of the most famous poems from this collection is Tintern Abbey.

Wordsworth wrote many poems about nature, childhood, memory, and ordinary life. His best-known works include I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey, and The Prelude. In 1843, he became Poet Laureate of Great Britain.

Wordsworth’s poetry is admired for its simple language, deep feelings, and love of the natural world. He died in 1850, but his works are still widely read and studied today.
