Приведем выдержку из задания из учебника Баранова, Афанасьева, Михеева 10 класс, Дрофа: 33. Complete the text with the appropriate forms of the words on the right.
It is common knowledge that Christopher Columbus (1) discovered America in 1492. But scholars believe that some people from the north of Europe (2) had done it 500 years before Columbus. They say that Erik the Red, a rich farmer from Iceland, once (3) got into trouble and had to leave (4) his country. He (5) had heard of another island to the west of Iceland and so he (6) took his family and (7) set out to find it. The place (8) was found and (9) was given the name of Greenland. Erick’s son, Leif, in the year 1000 sailed to Norway where he (10) became a Christian. He wanted his people in Iceland (11) to become Christians too. So he sailed home with two priests. On (12) their way back they (13) ran into storms and fog. Eventually they (14) saw land. It (15) was covered with forests and was full of various animals. There were even grapes (16) growing there! These made such good wine that Lief called the country Wineland, or Vinland. Later this saga (17) was written down. Nowadays scholars tend to believe that Lief and his men were probably the (18) first Europeans who reached North America.
