A. Read the sentences and say in which of them you can use lately and recently and in which only recently is possible.
1. The bank opened a new branch in Germany.

B. Use the verbs in brackets in present perfect or past simple to complete the sentences.

A. Lately and recently can be used in sentences 2, 4, 5. Only recently is possible in sentences 1 and 3.

Have you done the shopping? — No, I forgot the money on the table.
Why haven’t you painted the door green? — I didn’t have any other paint.
Where have you put my PC? I can’t find it. — But I don’t know where it is.
Why didn’t you go to the concert? — I lost the tickets.
Has granny found her glasses? — Yes, she has. — Where did she find them? — In the book she was reading.
Have you finished translating the text? — No, my little cousin came home and asked me to help him with his homework.
Look! Someone has broken the vase! — Sorry, but that was not me.
Why have you put on these jeans? — My favourite ones were dirty.

Where has he gone? I can’t see him anywhere.
Where did you buy these shoes?
Where have you hidden my mobile? Where is it?

Разбор: Present Perfect употребляется, когда действие связано с настоящим или его результат важен сейчас. Past Simple нужен, если действие произошло в прошлом в определённое время или есть указание на прошлый момент.
