7 You have received a letter from your English-speaking pen friend, Max by name. In his letter Max writes:
Last week we had an ecology class and discussed various animals that make the
world a richer, a more interesting and a more beautiful place for us to live in. Unfortunately, fairly many of them are endangered or may become endangered. Do you sometimes discuss ecological problems in class? What are the topics you raise during your discussions? What do you do to change the environment or the better?

Write a letter to Max.

6. Comment on one of the statements.

I agree with the statement that every little helps to prevent the Earth from disaster. Environmental problems are too serious to be solved only by governments and big companies. Each person can contribute to protecting nature in everyday life.

First, small actions are easy to do and do not require much money or time. We can save water and electricity, use public transport, sort rubbish and avoid plastic bags. Second, if many people do these simple things, the result will be really important. Even one small habit, repeated by millions, can make a big difference. Third, such actions teach people to be responsible and to care about the planet.

Some people think that only strong laws and large-scale measures can save the Earth. They say that individual efforts are too small and useless compared to industrial pollution.

I do not agree with this opinion. Of course, laws are necessary, but they are not enough. If ordinary people do nothing, even the best laws will not work well. Real change begins with personal responsibility.

In conclusion, I believe that every little helps. Small daily actions may seem unimportant, but together they can protect the Earth and make our future better.

7. Letter to Max.

Dear Max,

Thanks for your letter. It was interesting to read about your ecology class.

Yes, we sometimes discuss ecological problems in class. We talk about air and water pollution, endangered animals, recycling and how to save energy. We also discuss what we can do to protect nature in our everyday life. For example, we try not to waste paper, we collect used batteries and we take part in school clean-up days.

I’m glad to hear that your sister is going to marry soon. What is her future husband like? When is the wedding going to take place? Are you going to help with the preparations?

The material of Unit Three was interesting and useful. It widened my scope and gave me new ideas about ecology, nature and human responsibility. Some problems raised in the unit were surprising and made me think them over. The unit helped me revise grammar and vocabulary, especially word formation and ways of expressing opinion. I learnt some new information about the English language, including how to write a formal letter and a short opinion essay. The tasks on writing and speaking were the easiest for me, while some vocabulary exercises were more difficult. I especially remember the tasks about environmental problems because they were important and актуальные.
