I’m writing from Rome. I’ve been here for a week on a school trip. It’s been a fantastic week full of discoveries. I’m also enjoying my friends’ company. We have so much fun together! Our next trip will be to Athens. I’m already looking forward to it.

Look through the steps of Unit Four and say:
• if the material of the unit was interesting, useful, widening your scope;
• if you found any new ideas in the texts and exercises of the unit;
• if any of the problems raised in the unit were surprising, making you think them over;
• if the unit helped you to revise grammar and vocabulary;
• what new information about the English language you have learnt;
• what things were easy/difficult;
• what tasks you specifically remember and why.
Prepare a computer presentation on the topic “In Harmony with the World”. You may consider these ideas:
to be in harmony with the world people should learn more about various countries;
travelling is one of the ways to know the world better;
to achieve the state of harmony with the world, we should understand that there are things that make nations and peoples different, but there are many things that unite us;
it is possible to avoid a lot of conflicts and contradictions between the people of different cultural identification if we are tolerant to our differences.
Be ready to give your presentation in class. It shouldn’t take longer than five minutes. Try to make your presentation interesting, illustrate it with photos, pictures etc.

6. Comment on one of the statements
East or west, home is best.
People have always travelled, explored new places and learned about different cultures. Some say that the more you travel, the more you understand the world. However, I believe that home is still the best place for everyone.
First of all, home is the place where a person feels safe and comfortable. We know our family, friends, habits and traditions there, so we can relax and be ourselves. Secondly, home gives us emotional support. When we have problems, it is our close people who help us and understand us best. Finally, no matter how interesting other countries are, home always remains the place where we belong.
Of course, some people think that travelling is more exciting than staying at home. They say that it helps us discover new cultures, meet new people and become more independent. I agree that travelling is useful and enjoyable, but it cannot replace the feeling of being at home.
To sum up, travelling is important, but home is still the best place for a person. It gives us peace, love and a sense of belonging.
7. Letter to Diana
Dear Diana,
Thanks for your letter. It’s great to hear that you are having such a wonderful time in Rome. I’m glad you enjoy your school trip and your friends’ company.
Yes, I do go on school trips. Usually we visit museums, historical places, theatres and parks. Sometimes we also go to other cities or take part in educational excursions. If I had a chance, I’d like to go to London, because I’ve always wanted to see its famous sights and improve my English.
What places in Greece are you going to visit? Will you travel with your classmates? Are you looking forward to seeing Athens?
Write back soon.
Best wishes,
Alex
Your total result?
I think my total result could be better. It depends on how well I prepare, how carefully I revise grammar and vocabulary, and how much attention I pay to writing tasks. I am satisfied with my marks only if they reflect my real knowledge. To improve them, I should work more regularly and check my mistakes.
Unit 4 reflection
Unit 4 was interesting and useful. I learned new ideas about travelling, different cultures and the importance of tolerance. Some texts made me think about how people from different countries can understand each other better. The unit also helped me revise grammar and vocabulary.
The easiest tasks were reading and speaking about familiar topics. The most difficult tasks were writing longer texts and expressing my opinion clearly. I especially remember the tasks about travelling and cultural differences because they were thought-provoking and practical.
