Recommendations on how to decrease the effects of culture shock:

• Learn as much as possible about the country, its traditions and customs before travelling.
• Be open-minded and try to accept differences.
• Learn some basic phrases in the local language.
• Keep in touch with your family and friends.
• Make new friends and communicate with local people.
• Try to keep your usual daily routine.
• Be patient and give yourself time to adapt.
• Do not compare everything with your home country.
• Ask for help if you feel confused or stressed.
• Stay positive and remember that culture shock is temporary.
