Приведем выдержку из задания из учебника Биболетова, Бабушис 10 класс, Дрофа: 51 Tell the jokes using reported speech. Voice on phone: John Smith is ill and can’t attend classes today. He requested me to notify you. Teacher: All right. Who is this speaking? Voice: This is my roommate.
John: If the headteacher doesn’t take back what he said to me this morning, I’m going to leave the college. David: What did he say? John: Leave the college!

1. The voice on the phone said that John Smith was ill and couldn’t attend classes that day. He said that he had been requested to notify the teacher.

The teacher said all right and asked who was speaking. The voice answered that it was his roommate.

2. John said that if the headteacher didn’t take back what he had said to him that morning, he was going to leave the college.

David asked what he had said. John answered that he had said: “Leave the college!”
