Here is what I think really happened.

1. David and Daniel argued about something important to them, probably because they had different opinions or plans.
2. They went out into the forest to be alone and sort out their argument.
3. Dima followed them because he was curious and wanted to know what was going on.
4. Yes, David could have got scared and run away.
5. Yes, Daniel could have got scared too.
6. Yes, Dima could have lied to cover somebody up, especially if he wanted to protect one of them.
7. No, Dima cannot know for sure who saved him if he did not see it clearly.
8. Only David, Daniel and Dima know the truth, but they may not all be telling it.

Answer: I think David and Daniel argued, went into the forest to talk, and Dima followed them. Something frightened them there, so one of them may have run away, and Dima may have been saved by one of the boys. The full truth is known only by the three of them.
