The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is situated on the British Isles and is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The capital of the UK is London.

England is the largest part of the country. Its symbol is the rose. Scotland is famous for the thistle, Wales for the daffodil, and Northern Ireland for the shamrock. The UK has many places of interest, such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Stonehenge and Edinburgh Castle.

The UK has a rich history and many traditions. The British are proud of the monarchy, the Parliament and the royal family. One of the best-known traditions is afternoon tea. The country is also famous for its red double-decker buses, black cabs, guards in bearskin hats and the changing of the Guard.
