Although a person’s values are important to him/her, they are not universal.

People usually learn their values from their family, culture, religion and personal experience. That is why what seems right to one person may seem strange or even wrong to another. For example, in some countries people value independence and direct speech, while in others respect for elders and modesty are much more important. So it is clear that values are often connected with the society we live in.

At the same time, some values are shared by almost everyone. Most people agree that honesty, kindness, justice and respect for human life are important. These values help people live together peacefully. If a person has no moral principles at all, it is difficult to trust him or her. So values are not completely different in every culture.

I remember a story about a student from Japan who visited a Russian family. At first, he was surprised that the hosts asked him to speak openly about his opinions at dinner. In his culture, it was more polite to listen quietly. However, after some time he understood that the family was simply trying to be friendly and honest. This experience showed him that values can be different, but people can still respect each other.

In conclusion, personal values are important, but they are not universal. Some of them depend on culture, while others are common for all people.
