1. I wouldn’t like to join any of these groups because I’m not interested in the lifestyles of hippies, punks or Goths. I don’t want to protest against society or shock my relatives and other people with my appearance, for example, with piercings or tattoos.
2. I’m sure that it is much easier to join a group than to leave it. Young people may find it difficult to change their habitual way of life and give up their friends and beliefs. To become a member of a subculture, you need to wear unusual clothes, accept the group’s values and follow its rules.
3. When you join a group, you may become different in some ways, although you usually remain yourself. Your outlook on life may change, and you may start defending your rights. You may also change your appearance, for example, dye your hair purple or wear unusual make-up.
