1. What are the aims of the exchange programmes for secondary school students? There are two main aims: Russians learn more about the United States, and Americans break stereotypes about Russians.
2. What does a person need to be a successful candidate? A successful candidate needs to have a good command of English, be able to adapt to a very different way of life, make friends, represent their own country and be flexible.
3. What are the reasons for the success of the exchange programmes? The participants want to learn more about the USA. They also bring their new knowledge back to Russia and try to apply it in their home country.
4. What are the main problems exchange students have? The main problem is adapting to a new situation and meeting new people.
5. What impact have the programmes had on the people, communities and countries involved? During the Soviet period, many Americans had no idea about real Russia and Russian people. Russian students learned a lot about real America. The participants also shared their knowledge with people in their communities and used it in their home country.
