Facing the criminals
I was reaching the end of the last chapter when l heard a strange noise downstairs in the living room.
At first, i thought l was just imagining tiling’s, but then I heard the noise again, a bit louder this time. I put down my book and listened carefully. Someone was downstairs: it was probably a thief, or even worse.

I had just come home from school. My parents were sitting in the living room watching TV. I was reaching the end of the last chapter when I heard a strange noise downstairs in the living room. At first, I thought I was just imagining things, but then I heard the noise again, a bit louder this time. I put down my book and listened carefully. Someone was downstairs: it was probably a thief, or even worse. I took a broomstick in my hand and slowly went downstairs.
When I opened the door, I saw two “criminals” in the kitchen. They were my parents, trying to surprise me with a birthday cake. The strange noise was just the sound of the plates and the oven. I felt very embarrassed, but we all laughed in the end.
