Below are some tips on how to spend a day of fun with the family. Read through the four tips and match them with the headings. There are three extra headings.

Take a hike with the family and enjoy the beautiful natural world around you. Most state parks offer free hiking trails that are fit for not only the experienced hiker, but for beginners as well. Be sure everyone in the family is equipped with proper shoes and a bottle of water before leaving the house. If you have never taken long walks, consider asking the park consultants if they provide guides or maybe even a class on hiking for beginners. Taking a hike is a great way to get some physical activity.
Organise a family sporting event. Invite all the members of the family to meet at a particular park or field in the area. Enjoy a game of softball, volleyball or football. Ask that everyone brings drinks, snacks, pies or pizzas to share with others. Decide in advance the game to be played and prepare the necessary equipment.
Summer time is good for family outings, and a family picnic is a great way to get everyone together to share some food and fun. A family picnic may be near the water, at a park or in the back yard of your own house. Prepare all the necessary things. Decide whether to have sandwiches or have some chicken or meat to be grilled. Having a picnic does not mean just sitting and eating in the warmth of the sun. Think in advance what you will do after eating. Have age-appropriate games ready for everyone to play.
Plan a historical or an educational outing for the whole family. Gather brochures about the town or do a little research on the Internet and decide on various locations the family can visit. Perhaps you live in or nearby a city that offers historical places opened to the public. Make reservations for the family to tour museums, castles or churches.
