Задача

Приведем выдержку из задания из учебника Кузовлев 10-11 класс, Просвещение: 1. Travelling has always been an exciting experience. 1) What country/city did Kate visit? What information helps you to understand it? (reading/listening for detail) Kate: Oh Jess, it was a marvellous trip. Everything was perfect. I am so happy. Jess: Are you? But, what makes you so happy? You know a Iot about the country you visited. Did you like their English? Kate: It sounds strange, but I didn’t mind it. I understood them… most of the time. But they looked at me as if I were a representative of an aristocratic family or the British ambassador (посол). Jess: That’s really surprising. Is that all, Lady Kate? Kate: Stop it. Can’t you see that I am full of impressions? Know anything about their capital? Jess: Yes, I do know about it. I know that their lawmakers moved there in 1800. Kate: Well, have you ever heard about the mysterious echo in the National Statuary Hall? Jess: Echo? In a hall? You’re kidding (ты разыгрываешь меня). Kate: No! There were times when Representatives met there to discuss political problems. So, Mr John Quincy Adams’ desk was just on the place where he could hear whispered (произносимые шепотом) discussions of the opposing party on the far side of the room. Jess: You must be joking. Kate: No! Just fancy that (только представь себе)! He surprised everyone when he seemed to guess what the other side was going to do before they did it. Jess: How rotten (какая низость)! Kate: Yes1 I agree. I saw so many interesting things: I saw the Senate and the House of Representatives in action while they were in session. It was terrific. Jess: I’m sure it was. Kate: Oh Jess, you must see it to understand how great it was. 2) What did Kate like most of all? 3) What surprised Jess? 4) Find in the dialogue how Kate or Jess: — shows admiration — shows surprise. — asks if someone knows about something — says she knows about something. 5) What other ways of expressing the same functions do you know? (AB Unit 2, ex. 7) *Цитирирование части задания со ссылкой на учебник производится исключительно в учебных целях для лучшего понимания разбора решения задания.

1) Kate visited the USA, more exactly Washington, D.C.

It is clear from the dialogue because Kate speaks about the lawmakers moving there in 1800, the National Statuary Hall, the Senate and the House of Representatives.

2) Kate liked seeing the Senate and the House of Representatives in action while they were in session most of all.

3) Jess was surprised by the mysterious echo in the National Statuary Hall and by the story about John Quincy Adams’ desk.

4)

  • shows admiration — “It was terrific.” / “Oh Jess, you must see it to understand how great it was.
  • shows surprise — “That’s really surprising.” / “Echo? In a hall? You’re kidding.
  • asks if someone knows about something — “Know anything about their capital?
  • says she knows about something — “Yes, I do know about it.

5) Other ways of expressing the same functions:
