I have various film tastes. I would watch any popular blockbuster films, but I will also take the time to watch some unknown foreign films. The only type I probably don’t watch is horror films, but that is because I get easily scared. However, I am attracted more by action-adventure films. My friends think it’s funny that I find watching car chases and fight scenes more relaxing than romantic and sentimental films. I especially like James Bond films where Sean Connery starred. (Vicky)

I do love theatre. Theatre is so rich in what it offers: opera, drama, ballet, comedy, music shows, and so on. Going to the theatre is a very unique experience. Seeing live performances is completely different to watching actors on screen. There is magnetism and skill that are easy to notice. Live music is always a bonus. It always gets the audience into the mood. And, of course, the costumes — especially in some of the big shows — are just gorgeous. (Nick)

My favourite film genre is science fiction. I like it best because there are lots of adventures and often some politics. I like films with really cool cutting edge special effects. If they didn’t have special effects, then how would impossible things be done? I really don’t like it when special effects are seriously noticeable. But if they strengthen the film impressions and help to bring the vision of the film to life, then I adore them. The best films to my mind are the films directed by James Cameron. (Sandra)

I used to love horror films especially those about zombies or with a lot of violence. Once I realised they’re all the same the past years and made me yawn, so I don’t watch them anymore. Along with horror films, I used to enjoy action films. But I think most of them are very unrealistic and the “hero” always survives. I gave up watching such films too! My all-time favourite genre is a thriller because such films are realistic and such events could happen in real life at any time. They are not always too violent and usually they have a great story that’s really exciting or makes you shake in your shoes all the time. (Brian)

I know that a lot of people would say “I hate opera” but I love it. It is a large, extravagant, magnificent art form. All great operas have some things in common: music that reaches your heart and soul; the phenomenon of human beings producing magnificent sound with no help from microphones or other technology. Opera is like a magical mirror that enlarges and changes familiar images and allows us to see them in new ways. (Lisa)
