PROJECT “An Ideal State, as I Understand It”
1) Determine the political system.
2) What kind of person do you want to be the head of state? Think of his/her traits.
3) Determine the institutions that will represent the legislative, the executive and the judicial branches of power.
4) Determine the responsibilities of each branch.
5) Write a Bill of Rights for the imaginary state.
6) Compare your variants and vote on each item to make a single document.
Project: “An Ideal State, as I Understand It”
Political system: a democratic republic.
Head of state: an honest, responsible, fair, intelligent and hardworking person who respects the law and cares about people.
Branches of power:
- Legislative branch: Parliament.
- Executive branch: the Government headed by the President.
- Judicial branch: independent courts.
Responsibilities of each branch:
- Parliament makes laws and approves the state budget.
- The Government carries out the laws, manages the country and solves everyday problems.
- The courts protect justice, settle disputes and make sure that laws are followed.
Bill of Rights:
- All people are equal before the law.
- Everyone has the right to life, freedom and personal safety.
- Everyone has the right to education and medical care.
- Everyone has the right to work and rest.
- Everyone has the right to freedom of speech, religion and peaceful assembly.
- No one may be tortured or treated unfairly.
- Everyone has the right to a fair trial.
Final variant: our ideal state is a democratic republic with a fair and responsible leader, a clear division of powers and a strong Bill of Rights that protects every citizen.
