- Read Learning to learn note No. 3 about how to write an opinion essay.
- Read the outline of an opinion essay. Look through the young people’s opinions (ex. 1.1) and decide which sentences you can use in the introduction and conclusion of the essay.

Why study geography?
In my opinion, geography is one of the most useful school subjects. It helps us understand the world we live in and shows how people, nature and the economy are connected.
First of all, geography gives us important knowledge about countries, continents, climates and natural resources. This knowledge is useful in everyday life because it helps us understand news, travel safely and learn more about other cultures. Secondly, geography teaches us to think about environmental problems such as pollution, climate change and the shortage of water. If we know more about these problems, we can find better ways to solve them. Finally, geography develops our ability to read maps, compare information and make conclusions.
Some people think that geography is not very important because modern technology can show us everything on a phone or a computer. I disagree with this opinion. Technology can give us facts, but it cannot replace real understanding. We need geography to see the bigger picture and to understand why things happen in different parts of the world.
To sum it up, geography is necessary because it broadens our outlook, helps us understand the world and prepares us for life in the modern society.
