Differences between the US and British governmental systems:

In Britain, the Prime Minister is a Member of Parliament. In the USA, the President is separate from Congress.
In Britain, the Prime Minister becomes the leader of the party that wins the election. In the USA, the President is elected by the people.
In Britain, the Prime Minister is usually the leader of the majority party in the House of Commons. In the USA, the President is both the head of state and the head of government.
In Britain, Parliament is the main law-making body. In the USA, Congress is the main law-making body.
In Britain, the government is formed by the party with the majority in Parliament. In the USA, the President and Congress are elected separately.

My opinion: The British system is based on Parliament, while the American system has a clear separation of powers between the President and Congress.
