Подробный ответ

Выполнение

1) Talk about the common features and differences between the Russian and US political systems.

Both Russia and the USA are federal republics with a system of separation of powers. In both countries, the head of state is the President. The legislative branch is represented by parliament: in Russia it is the Federal Assembly, and in the USA it is Congress. The executive branch is headed by the President in both countries, but in Russia the President has more power than in the USA.

In Russia, the President is the head of state and has a very strong role in the political system. He appoints the Prime Minister and can influence the work of the government. In the USA, the President is also the head of state and the head of the executive branch, but his powers are limited by Congress and the Supreme Court.

The system of checks and balances is used in both countries to prevent one branch of power from becoming too strong. It helps the branches control each other and keeps the political system balanced and democratic.

2) Role-play: questions for a British friend about the political system of the United Kingdom.

1. What role does the Queen play in the political life of the country?
2. What are the aims of the Shadow Cabinet?
3. What are the functions of the Non-Cabinet Ministers?
4. What are the links between the UK and the Commonwealth?

Possible answers for the British student:

The Queen is the head of state, but her powers are mostly ceremonial. She opens Parliament, gives royal approval to laws and represents the country.

The Shadow Cabinet is made up of leading members of the opposition. Its aim is to follow the work of the government, criticize it and prepare alternative policies.

Non-Cabinet Ministers help the government with special duties. They support the work of ministers and deal with specific areas of administration.

The UK has historical and political links with the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is a group of independent countries that were once part of the British Empire, and they cooperate in many fields.
