1) Speaking
I usually spend my free time with my friends at weekends. We see each other two or three times a week, and we often go for a walk, listen to music, play computer games or just talk.
Our favourite places in our hometown are the city park, the shopping centre and the cinema. We like the park because it is quiet and beautiful, and we can relax there. The shopping centre is a good place to meet friends, buy something and have a snack. We go to the cinema when there is a new film we want to watch.
We usually discuss school, exams, our future plans and relationships with parents and classmates. Sometimes we complain about too much homework, lack of free time and bad weather, because these things often bother us.
2) Role-play
Student 1: At home I have some rules. I get pocket money only if I help with housework. I can watch TV for one hour a day, and I must be at home by 10 o’clock. I also have to tidy my room and help my parents.
Student 1: I think some of these rules are unreasonable. For example, one hour of TV is too little, and the 10 o’clock curfew is too early on weekends. I need more free time to relax and meet my friends.
Student 1: What rules do you have at home?
Student 2: At my home the rules are quite similar. I also get pocket money for helping at home, but I can watch TV a little longer. My parents are not very strict about clothes, but they want me to do my homework first.
Student 2: I think your parents are a bit stricter than mine. I understand your complaints, but parents usually make rules because they want to protect us and teach us responsibility.
Student 2: Do you think your parents will change these rules if you explain your arguments?
