1. Rusty was in evacuation in England. Her native country was America.
2. She told her friends about blueberry pie, milk shakes with walnut syrup, The Wizard of Oz, Valentines, collecting coins, corn muffins, Oklahoma, fudge, phonograph records and their summer cottage on Lake Champlain.
She told them about these things because she wanted to describe life in America and impress her friends.
She didn’t tell them that she had to save up money and do odd jobs to go to the cinema, buy milk shakes and roller-skates, because that was not so pleasant.
