1) Victory Day is a national holiday in Russia. It is celebrated on 9 May and is related to the victory of the Soviet Union in the Second World War on 9 May, 1945. On this day, people take part in a huge military parade in Moscow on Red Square and in major Russian cities, lay wreaths and flowers on war-time memorials, and attend special parties and concerts for veterans. At 7:00 p.m. there is The Minute of Silence on radio and TV, and in the evening there are fireworks. The symbols of the holiday are the St George’s ribbon and red carnations.
2) I celebrated this holiday in my hometown by watching the parade, visiting the memorial, and giving flowers to veterans. In the evening, my family and I watched the fireworks.
