Listen to the six opinions about going to the cinema (A—F) and match them with the questions (1—7). There is one extra question that you do not need to use. You will hear the recording twice.
Who talks about:
- his love of going to the cinema despite small problems?
- inappropriate behaviour of some of the audience?
- kids’ bad behaviour?
- bad technical equipment?
- different reasons for not going to the cinema?
- high prices for snacks?
- watching films at home?

A. On rare occasions when I do go to the cinema, I try to choose the time to avoid the children’s showing. I hate it when you are trying to listen to the film and there are little kids screaming and crying. I especially hate parents who don’t stop their children misbehaving even though they are sitting next to them. Once some teens next to me were texting during the whole film. Very annoying!
B. I have two kids and when we go to the cinema they like to get as much as possible, which includes popcorn and drinks for each of them. You can’t bring your own snacks to the cinema. The last time the three of us went to the cinema it cost 21 pounds to get us in the door and another 24 pounds for boxes of popcorn and two drinks.
C. I hardly go to the cinema these days and when I do there is always someone having a conversation somewhere during the film. Really it’s not hard not to get on one’s nerves, just sit and watch the film. I really don’t want to hear anything other than film sounds, music and dialogues until the film is over. Once I was at the cinema and there was a young man behind me who kicked me in head in the process. It was terrible!
D. Movies aren’t fun to go to anymore. The prices of tickets, drinks and snacks are too high. It has definitely become too expensive and just isn’t worth it. Not to talk about how terrible theatres are. Sometimes they have bad technical equipment. And children who can’t stop talking and can’t sit still. And not only children! People who don’t follow the «silence your mobile phone» rule and chat all the time.
E. I do like the cinema and have not had too many really bad experiences. High prices and the number of quality films keep me from going as often as I’d like, but they don’t make me hate the cinema. The cinema I go to is well equipped and clean. Maybe I’m lucky or maybe it’s the times or selection of films I go to but crowds never seem to be a problem. And the people that love the same films as me usually are as respectful to the other viewers as I am.
F. I haven’t been to the cinema for many years. The sound is too loud, the dirty floors, chewing gum on the seats … no thank you. We wait until something comes out on DVD and then we buy it. My family and I watch films here at home for fun. Music and laughter are what we want for entertainment, not sex and violence.
