Workaholics are those who spend most of their time working and have little interest in other things. Do you think such people can be called happy especially if their jobs are creative and they really do what they Iike to do? Explain your answer.
B Others think that the only thing to aim at is leisure and regard it as the most priceless thing Man can have. Would you agree that in most cases people work for work’s sake and that the only object of work is to obtain leisure? Illustrate your answer with examples.
C Work in pairs. One of you is to play the part of a workaholic, the other — of his opponent. Make up a dialogue trying to make your opponent see your point of view and change his/her opinion.

A. In my opinion, workaholics cannot be called truly happy, even if their jobs are creative and they like what they do. Of course, it is good when a person enjoys work, but life should not be limited to work only. A happy person usually has time for family, friends, rest, hobbies and self-development. If someone spends almost all their time working, they may become tired and stressed, and this can spoil their health and personal life.

B. I do not agree that people work only for the sake of leisure. Work is important not only because it gives us money and free time, but also because it helps us feel useful, independent and respected. Many people work to achieve goals, to develop their abilities and to contribute to society. Leisure is certainly valuable, but it is not the only purpose of work.

C.

Workaholic: I think work is the most important thing in life. If you work hard, you can achieve success and make your dreams come true.

Opponent: Success is important, but you should not forget about rest and your family. Life is not only about work.

Workaholic: But I enjoy my job, and it gives me energy and satisfaction.

Opponent: Even if you like your job, you need balance. Too much work can make you tired and unhappy.

Workaholic: Maybe you are right. I should spend more time on other things too.
