No one knows for sure when and where ice cream was invented. We know that it was in ancient times. We know that as far back as 200 B.C. people in China created a dish of rice mixed with milk that was then frozen by being packed in snow. We know that Alexander the Great enjoyed snow and ice flavoured with honey. In the Roman Empire, rich people frequently sent runners into the mountains for snow, which was then flavoured with fruits and juices. Ice cream was regularly served at the table of the English King Charles I during the 17th century. There is even a legend about the American origin of ice cream. According to it, President George Washington’s wife left sweet cream on the back porch one evening and in the morning found ice cream.
For a long time, ice cream remained a rare and expensive dish for the rich. With the invention of refrigerators, producing ice cream soon became an industry in the USA and other countries.

Task 1
No one knows for sure when and where ice cream was invented. We know that it was in ancient times. We know that as far back as 200 B.C. people in China created a dish of rice mixed with milk that was then frozen by being packed in snow. We know that Alexander the Great enjoyed snow and ice flavoured with honey. For a long time, ice cream remained a rare and expensive dish for the rich. With the invention of refrigerators, producing ice cream soon became an industry in the USA and other countries.
Task 2
- What are your opening hours?
- How long does the Health Check take?
- What medical tests does it include?
- What specialists work in the centre?
- How much does the Health Check cost for overseas visitors?
Task 3
I’ve chosen photo number 1.
This photo was taken last summer at the seaside. In the picture, I can see my younger sister and our dog. They are playing on the beach near the water. My sister is laughing, and the dog looks very happy and energetic.
It was a warm and sunny day, so we spent a lot of time outside. The sea is calm, and the sky is clear. I took this photo when my sister was throwing a ball for the dog. It was a very funny and cheerful moment.
I keep this photo in my album because it reminds me of our family holiday. It brings back pleasant memories and makes me smile. I decided to show it to my friend because I think it is one of the nicest photos from my album.
Also, I wanted to share this happy moment with my friend. The photo shows how much fun we had together. I think it is a good example of a summer memory that I will never forget.
Task 4
The two pictures show pets in different situations. In the first photo, a dog is sitting with its owner outdoors. In the second photo, a cat is lying comfortably at home.
Both pictures show pets and their owners, and in both cases the animals look calm and well cared for. The pets are also very cute and friendly.
However, the pictures are different because the dog is outside, while the cat is indoors. The dog seems more active, while the cat looks relaxed and lazy. Another difference is that the first photo shows a person with the pet, but the second one focuses more on the animal itself.
I would prefer the dog in the first picture. I like dogs because they are loyal, energetic and fun to spend time with. They can be great companions and make people feel happier.
