Reports are usually written for people in authority, such as employers, head teachers etc. They state and evaluate the positive and negative qualities of a place, event etc, in order to make a judgement or recommendation. Reports always begin with who the report is for and from, the purpose of the report and the date. They include: • an introduction containing the purpose and content of the report • a main body presenting the positive and negative aspects of the place/event etc, with each point presented under a separate subheading • a conclusion summarising the content of the report and giving the writer’s general opinion and/or recommendation. Reports are usually written in a formal, impersonal style, using factual language. Comments that you would find in a report: A, C, E.
