In reported wh- questions, we use the question word (who, what, where, when, why, how) and the word order becomes statement order, not question order.

We usually change the tense back one step:

• Present Simple → Past Simple
• Present Continuous → Past Continuous
• Present Perfect → Past Perfect
• will → would

If the reporting verb is in the present, the tense usually does not change.
