Marine Litter

Marine litter is rubbish that ends up in the sea. It includes plastic bags, bottles, cans, fishing nets and other waste. It is a serious problem for oceans and sea life.

How it harms wildlife:

• Animals can get trapped in plastic and nets.
• Sea birds, fish and turtles may eat plastic by mistake.
• Pollution can injure or kill marine animals.

How it harms people:

• Dirty beaches are unpleasant and unsafe.
• Polluted water can affect fishing and tourism.
• Microplastics can enter the food chain.

What we can do:

• Use less plastic and recycle waste.
• Throw rubbish in bins and clean up beaches.
• Reuse bags, bottles and containers.
• Join environmental campaigns and teach others to protect the sea.
