One special festival in my country is Maslenitsa. It is celebrated in late February or early March, before Lent. The reason for this festival is to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. During Maslenitsa, people have many fun activities: they visit friends and relatives, take part in games, sing songs, dance, and ride sledges. The most popular food is blini, thin pancakes, which are eaten with butter, jam, honey, or sour cream. One special tradition is to burn a straw effigy of winter at the end of the festival. Maslenitsa is a cheerful and colourful holiday that brings families and communities together.
