You have seen an ad for a summer job in a cafe. You want more information about the job. Call the manager at the cafe and ask about:
- what your responsibilities will be
- if you need experience
- months you can work
- pay
You begin the conversation. Your partner will play the part of the cafe owner.
Remember to:
- be active and polite
- get all the information you need
- decide whether to apply for the job or not
Sample dialogue:
Student: Hello. I’m calling about the summer job in your cafe. Could you tell me a little more about it?
Manager: Of course. What would you like to know?
Student: What will my responsibilities be?
Manager: You’ll help serve customers, take orders, and keep the tables clean.
Student: Do I need any experience?
Manager: No, not necessarily. We can train you.
Student: Which months can I work?
Manager: The job is available in June, July, and August.
Student: How much will I be paid?
Manager: You’ll get £8 an hour.
Student: Thank you. It sounds interesting. I’d like to apply for the job.
