I am the Phantom, and the theatre is my home. I live in the dark passages beneath the stage, where I can watch everything that happens above me. Every night I listen to the music, the applause and the voices of the actors. I know every corner of the theatre, every secret door and every hidden room.

I see the performers rehearse, worry, laugh and dream. I watch the audience arrive in their finest clothes, excited to enjoy the show. From my hidden place, I can see the bright lights, the beautiful costumes and the magic of the stage. I also hear the whispers of fear when people sense that something strange is happening.

I move silently through the theatre and leave messages when I want to be noticed. Sometimes I help the music sound perfect; sometimes I make my presence known to remind everyone that I am there. The theatre is my world, and I protect it with all my heart.
