The new Star Trek film, directed by J. J. Abrams, is a spectacular retelling of the original 1960s TV series. It is a fast-paced science-fiction adventure that introduces the familiar characters in their youth, reveals their backgrounds and shows their first mission aboard the USS Enterprise. The gripping plot is full of surprising twists and includes a touching love story. The heroes must save Earth from Nero, an evil visitor from the future. The casting is brilliant: Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto give fresh energy to the roles of Kirk and Spock, while Eric Bana is convincing as Nero. The special effects are simply out of this world. All in all, Star Trek will appeal to old fans and attract new ones. It is definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
