Majority of Under-fives Have TV in Bedrooms
In Britain the majority of children under five have a television in their bedrooms, according to the research. Parents are spending thousands of pounds equipping their children’s rooms with electronic gadgets. Seven of ten children under 17, including more than half of under-fives, have a television. Half of all youngsters also have a video. Stereo players can be found in teen’s bedrooms too. Games consoles have become another common bedroom feature, owned by six- to ten-year-olds. A lot of them have digital cameras. One of the researchers says: “We used to think of kids’ rooms as messy no-go zones. But it seems they are now one of the “most expensively kitted-out rooms in homes”.

The text shows that children’s bedrooms in Britain are often full of expensive electronic gadgets. In my opinion, this is not a very good trend. Small children do not really need TVs, video players or game consoles in their rooms. It is better for them to spend more time reading, playing outdoors and communicating with their parents. Too many gadgets can also be bad for children’s health and sleep. So, I think parents should be more careful and not turn a child’s bedroom into a mini entertainment centre.
