If many of the world’s plant species were to become extinct, the consequences would be serious. First of all, many animals would lose their food and habitats, so some of them might also die out. In addition, the balance of nature would be disturbed, and this could lead to problems in the food chain. People would suffer too, because plants give us oxygen, food and medicines. As a result, life on Earth would become much harder and less stable. That is why it is so important to protect plant species and preserve biodiversity.
