How and Why the English and Russian Languages Have Changed Over the Years
Languages are always changing. English and Russian have both developed over many centuries, and these changes were caused by history, culture, technology, and contact with other peoples.
English has changed a lot since Old English times. It was influenced by the Vikings, the Normans, Latin, and later by many other languages. As a result, English vocabulary became very rich. Grammar also became simpler over time: many old endings disappeared, and word order became more important. Today English continues to change because of the Internet, social media, science, and global communication. New words appear all the time, for example selfie, blog, and streaming.
Russian has also changed greatly. In different historical periods it was influenced by Church Slavonic, French, German, and English. Some words and expressions disappeared, while new ones appeared. Russian spelling and grammar were reformed several times, especially in the 18th and 20th centuries. Modern Russian is changing too: new borrowings, abbreviations, and internet slang are becoming common in everyday speech.
Both languages change because people need new words for new ideas, objects, and technologies. Also, languages change when cultures meet and influence each other. Another reason is that speakers naturally simplify language and adapt it to modern life.
In conclusion, English and Russian are living languages. They will continue to change in the future, because language always develops together with society.
