In Russia, vocational education is usually provided by colleges, technical schools and vocational schools. Students can enter them after the 9th or 11th grade. The programmes are mainly focused on practical training and preparing students for a specific profession. In the USA, vocational education is often offered in high schools, community colleges and special training centres. American students may combine general education with career-oriented subjects and practical skills.

Both systems aim to help young people get a profession and find a job. However, in Russia vocational education is more separated from general education, while in the USA it is often integrated into the school system. In both countries students can continue their education after vocational training.
