Speaker 1
Yes, I think it’s a great idea! Right now we all pay the same amount of money, but some of us produce five times as much as others. At my home we’re doing our best to reduce the amount of rubbish we produce. We’ve actually cut it down to one bin bag a month. Other people still throw out as much as six or seven bags per week. I don’t think I should have to pay for other people’s rubbish.
Speaker 2
I believe it’s not our fault. The amount of packaging in supermarkets is terrible and they often don’t give us a choice. Why on earth are cucumbers wrapped in plastic? I believe supermarkets must be more responsible and they should actually be fined for using too much packaging. Why should we pay for their irresponsibility to the environment?
Speaker 3
I would really like to recycle but at the moment it’s not organised well in my community. We don’t have any recycling bins around, and I actually don’t know whether they are even available at all in my town. I believe my local government should do something about it.
Speaker 4
Yes, I think it’s a brilliant idea to pay for the amount of rubbish we throw out. But what can I do about all the junk mail and flyers I find in my mailbox every morning. Where should I put all of it? And then how am I supposed to organise it all? How will the officials know that it’s my rubbish bag and not my neighbours?
