Nowadays many people discuss whether men and women should have different roles in society. Some people believe that these roles are fixed from birth and that there will always be “male” and “female” jobs. I do not agree with this statement.
In my opinion, a person’s profession and responsibilities should depend on abilities, interests and education, not on gender. First, both men and women can be equally successful in many spheres such as medicine, teaching, business, science and even the army. Second, modern society needs equal opportunities for everyone, because discrimination limits personal development. Third, when people choose jobs freely, they are usually more motivated and productive.
However, some people think that men and women are naturally suited to different kinds of work. They say that men are usually stronger and better for hard physical jobs, while women are more caring and patient, so they are better with children or in nursing.
I cannot fully agree with this opinion. Physical strength or patience depends on a particular person, not on gender. There are many strong women and many caring men. Besides, modern technology makes many physical differences less important than before.
To conclude, I believe that there should be no strict “male” or “female” jobs in society. Everyone should have the right to choose any profession according to their talents and interests.
