…Frankly speaking, living in a big city has its pros but it also has its cons. People’s opinions of big cities are often divided. Some of the people who live in a big city would give anything to have even a small piece of land in the country; others are completely content in their urban environment. I personally don’t have a firm opinion on the subject. On the one hand, living in a big city is more comfortable, and there are cinemas, theatres, and museums for those who like culture. For shoppers and gourmets, there are choices on every corner. And if that isn’t enough, the schools and colleges are incomparable to those in small towns or villages. Once more, we can choose whatever we want to do. This gives young people, especially, opportunities which are normally out of reach in smaller communities. And it is usually easier to find a job, even a well paid job, in the city.
On the other hand, people in a big city tend to be faceless. I suppose being faceless is sometimes good in some situations, especially where gossip is concerned. There is usually a lot of competition in a big city as well, often referred to as the rat race. While this might help people to work hard, it sometimes goes too far. There’s also the pollution and the horrible noise. We can usually find more criminals in a city, not just robbers but also murderers. It stands to reason that the more people there are, the more chance there is for deviation.
I think that I wouldn’t be able to live in a big city my whole life, but there would be some good things about it for a short time. In a town like Winchester, where I come from, people always know something about you from their friends who know it from their friends, and think that the most important subject is what someone wore two weeks ago! I hate that part of living in a small place. Perhaps the best solution for me is to live just close enough to a big city to not be part of the gossip of the towns.

I think she would prefer to live just close enough to a big city, but not in it all the time. She says that she wouldn’t be able to live in a big city her whole life, although there are some good things about it for a short time.
