Teenagers get too much freedom nowadays.
What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement?
Write 200—250 words. Use the following plan.
1 Make an introduction (state the problem).
2 Express your personal opinion and give 2—3 reasons for your opinion.
3 Express an opposing opinion and give 1—2 reasons for this opposing opinion.
4 Explain why you don’t agree with the opposing opinion.
5 Make a conclusion restating your position.

• Think of a way to paraphrase the statement to use in the introduction.
• Write a list of arguments to support your opinion.
Choose 2—3 arguments which you can develop into a paragraph.
• Consider what other people may think about the problem.
Make a list of other arguments and choose 1—2 which you can develop into a paragraph.
• Think of counterarguments you can use to disagree with the opposing opinion.
• Think of the links in the paragraphs and between them. Use the expressions from Ex. 95.

Essay
Nowadays many people believe that teenagers are given too much freedom. I partly agree with this statement, but I think that freedom is necessary for young people if it is combined with responsibility and control.
To begin with, teenagers need freedom to learn how to make their own decisions. If parents control every step, children will not become independent. In addition, freedom helps teenagers develop their personality and understand what they really want in life. Finally, when young people have some freedom, they learn to be responsible for their actions and to manage their time better.
However, some people think that teenagers really get too much freedom today. They say that many young people spend too much time online, ignore their studies and do not listen to adults. Besides, too much freedom can lead to bad habits and dangerous behaviour.
I do not fully agree with this opinion. In my view, the problem is not freedom itself, but the lack of guidance. Teenagers should have freedom, but parents and teachers must set clear rules and explain what is right and wrong. This balance helps young people grow up safely and become mature.
To sum up, I believe that teenagers do not get too much freedom if adults give them support and reasonable limits. Freedom is important, but it should go together with responsibility.
