1. Work in pairs. What do each of the branches of geography focus on?

Geography is divided into several branches, and each of them studies a different part of the world.

• Physical geography focuses on nature: landforms, climate, rivers, seas, plants, and animals.
• Economic geography studies how people use natural resources and how industry, agriculture, transport, and trade are developed in different places.
• Political geography deals with countries, borders, capitals, and the way states are organized.
• Population geography studies where people live, how many people there are, and how they move from place to place.

So, economic geography is about the relationship between people, resources, and economic activity in different regions.
