Work in pairs. Look at the sets of pictures showing people learning in different ways. Take it in turns to compare and contrast them. See “How to Deal with Comparing and Contrasting Photos Task” in Learning Strategies for help. Use 1.5 minutes to prepare. You have to speak for 2 minutes.
You must cover the points:
1. Briefly describe the pictures.
2. Say in what ways the pictures are similar.
3. Say in what ways the pictures are different.
4. Say which of the ways you would prefer.
5. Explain your choice.
Here is a possible answer:
The pictures show people learning in different ways. In one picture, a student is studying alone at home with a laptop. In another picture, students are learning in a classroom with a teacher. In the third picture, a person is reading a book in a library.
These pictures are similar because all the people are learning something new. They are also doing useful work and trying to improve their knowledge.
At the same time, the pictures are different. In the first picture, the student uses modern technology and studies independently. In the second one, learning is more traditional and takes place in a group. In the third picture, the person learns quietly and individually in a library.
I would prefer learning with a teacher in a classroom. I think this way is more effective because I can ask questions, get help immediately and discuss the topic with other students.
