We use a/an with singular countable nouns when we speak about something in general or mention it for the first time.

We use the with nouns when we speak about something specific, with unique things, and with some words like the morning, the evening, the sea, the cinema, the city, the weather.

We do not use the with plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns in a general meaning, with proper names, with possessive adjectives, and with words like school, hospital, university when we speak about their purpose.

Examples: a car, an apple, some water, the car, the sun, the morning, students, Nick, his book, go to school.
