Study the two pictures. In 1.5 minutes be ready to compare and contrast them:
- give a brief description of the pictures (action, location)
- say what the pictures have in common
- say in what way the pictures are different
- say which of the places presented in the pictures you’d prefer to live in
- explain why
You will speak for not more than 2 minutes (12–15 sentences). You have to talk continuously. Work in groups of 4 and share the results of your pair discussions.
The two pictures show different places to live. One picture presents a big modern city with tall buildings, busy streets and a lot of traffic. The other picture shows a quiet rural area with green fields, a few houses and open space.
Both places are inhabited and have houses, roads and people’s everyday life. They are also places where people can work, study and spend their free time. However, the city is crowded and noisy, while the countryside is calm and peaceful. In the city there are many cars, shops and offices, but in the village there are fewer people and more nature.
I would prefer to live in the countryside. I like fresh air, silence and beautiful scenery. Life there seems healthier and less stressful. At the same time, I could visit the city when I need more entertainment or shopping opportunities.
