I would like to say a few words about the Global Classroom project, in which I took part. It is an interactive course initiated by East Carolina University in the USA and Saratov State University here in Russia. The project brings together participants from a number of English-speaking universities around the world via the Internet and webcams.
The aim of the project is to create an open, personal exchange between students from different countries through a series of classroom discussions. The students are given information about the culture and traditions of these countries, family structures, the meaning of work and life, and their hopes for the future.
Most of the students specialise in communications or international studies, but the project also includes education majors, or future teachers of English. Each class is digitally recorded and broadcast simultaneously via the Internet to the partner university. In addition, each student works with a partner from a foreign university. The student partners work together to complete papers and projects required by their teachers and to have more in-depth discussions.
