Love-and-friendship story
Laura and Sandra are good friends. Allan is Sandra’s classmate. Laura and Allan lock eyes at Sandra’s birthday party. They instantly fall in love.
- Sandra is happy for Laura and Allan and enjoys being a friend to both of them. She invites them to a picnic the next weekend.
- Sandra is far from being thrilled when she realises that her best friend Laura has probably found someone who’s more important to her than she.
- Laura invites Sandra and Allan to a picnic the next weekend. Sandra fancies Allan herself and is determined to win him.
- Allan invites both girls to a picnic the next weekend.
Main line: Laura and Allan lock eyes at Sandra’s birthday party. They instantly fall in love. Sandra is far from being thrilled when she realises that her best friend Laura has probably found someone who’s more important to her than she is.
Narration from Sandra’s point of view:
I was really happy when Laura and Allan met at my birthday party. They seemed to like each other at once, and I was glad that my best friend had found someone special. I invited them both to a picnic the next weekend, hoping we would all have a great time together.
But later I began to feel upset. I realised that Laura might have found someone more important to her than I was. I did not want to lose my best friend, and I felt jealous of Allan. I understood that I had to be honest with myself and with Laura about my feelings.
