Compare the systems of vocational education in Russia to the ones in the USA. Discuss the systems in groups.

The system of vocational education in Russia and in the USA has both similarities and differences.

In Russia, vocational education is usually provided by colleges, technical schools and vocational schools. Students can enter them after the 9th or 11th form. The programmes are mainly focused on practical skills and prepare students for specific jobs.

In the USA, vocational education is often offered in high schools, community colleges and special training centres. Students can also choose vocational courses together with general subjects. The system is more flexible, and students may combine study with work practice.

In both countries, vocational education helps young people get a profession and start working earlier. However, in the USA there are usually more opportunities to choose different courses and change a career path later.
