- Work in groups of 3–4. You have two choices: Either design and introduce a new exam system for Russia or describe how to improve the existing exam system. Discuss the following aspects of the new or existing system:
- the stress it causes in students / teachers;
- how to make it more student- / teacher-friendly;
- its reliability;
- its fairness;
- how easy teachers find it to assess;
- whether it’s universal for secondary schools and institutions of higher education;
- how it approaches multi-levels (for students with different needs and aims).
Present your group’s ideas to the class using visual aids.

Our group thinks that the existing exam system in Russia should be improved rather than completely changed.
First of all, exams cause a lot of stress for both students and teachers. To make the system more student-friendly, there should be fewer tests and more continuous assessment during the school year.
The system must also be reliable and fair. All students should have the same conditions, clear criteria, and equal chances to show their knowledge.
Teachers should find it easier to assess students, so the exam tasks should be simple to check and not too time-consuming.
The system should be universal for secondary schools and institutions of higher education, but it should also take into account different levels of students. Stronger students could do advanced tasks, while others could choose basic ones.
In our opinion, such changes would make the exam system more effective, fair, and useful for everyone.
