Do research on the topic “Who lives in Russia?” See “Tips for Doing Internet Research” in Learning Strategies for help. Follow these steps.
- Prepare questions for the interview. Use the following ideas:
- period of time you have lived in this country / city / village;
- place of origin;
- reasons for migration;
- changes in life in the new place;
- contacts with people / relatives in the country of origin.
- Find a person or a family who have migrated to / from another country / region / city.
- Interview them. Take notes while talking.
- Look through your notes and summarise them.
- Tell your classmates what you have learned.
- Are there many similarities between your stories?
For this task, you need to do a small research project and then present your results to the class. Here is a possible plan and sample questions for the interview:
- How long have you lived in Russia / this city / this village?
- Where are you from originally?
- Why did you move here?
- What has changed in your life since you moved?
- Do you keep in touch with people or relatives in your home country / region?
After the interview, make short notes and summarise the information in a few sentences. Then tell your classmates what you have learned and compare the stories.
Example summary: I interviewed a family who moved to Russia from another country. They have lived here for several years. They moved because of work and family reasons. Their life changed a lot: they learned the language, got used to the new culture and made new friends. They still keep in touch with relatives in their home country.
There are often many similarities between such stories: people usually move for work, study or family reasons, and they all need time to adapt to a new place.
